Following the annual meeting of the CBSE exam committee, the board has decided to bring about changes in the assessment pattern for classes IX and X. A circular released last week makes it mandatory for students from classes 9 and 10 to appear for the two summative assessments (SA) and pass with a certain percentage of marks. The rules will be effective for class 9 students from the 2013-14 academic year and for class10 students from 2014-15.
In case a student of class 9 or 10 is unable to appear for SA1 due to an illness, he would be given one more chance to appear for the exam till 31 October. Class 9 students can take the Eligible for Improvement of Performance (EIOP) exam for SA2, a month after the results are declared.
Also, students will have to score at least 25% marks in both SA exams in order to pass, i.e. at least 15 out of 60 marks and a total of 33% in each of the five subjects.
